Our founders, Mark Ring, Peter Stone, and Satinder Singh Baveja, are three of the leading researchers in designing AIs that learn knowledge and actions from experience, with a combined total of over 60 years of active research and development in AI. Their expertise and experience in innovating in these areas forms the foundation for CogitAI’s next-generation AI products.

Mark Ring is co-founder and CEO of CogitAI Inc. CogitAI is Mark’s fifth startup, including previous positions as co-founder of Alto Research, which licensed products to companies such as Yamaha and Sharper Image. He was also the principal architect for an international research grant application that secured tens of millions of Euros in funding from the governments of Germany and China for an international research consortium.

As the author of over 20 academic papers, Ring has extensive experience in machine learning, reinforcement learning, and continual learning and has presented at many industry conferences such as AAAI’s Annual Symposium and IEEE’s International Conference on Development. Mark received a BA in Computer Science from Vassar College and his PhD in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Austin.

Peter Stone is co-founder, president and COO of CogitAI. Stone holds numerous awards and recognitions, including the titles of Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow, Guggenheim Fellow, AAAI Fellow, IEEE Fellow, AAAS Fellow, and Fulbright Scholar. In 2007 he was awarded the prestigious IJCAI Computers and Thought award.

Peter is also the founder and director of the Learning Agents Research Group (LARG) within the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin. He authored the first study panel report of Stanford’s 100 Year Study on AI and has published more than 400 academic papers. He is president-elect of the international RoboCup Federation and was a co-chair of the 2014 AAAI conference on Artificial Intelligence.

Peter received a BS in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, his MS in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, and his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.

VP of Engineering, Cogitai

Pete Wurman is vice president of engineering at CogitAI. Pete is best known for his work as CTO and co-founder of Kiva Systems, the company that pioneered the use of mobile robotics in warehouses and distribution facilities, which Amazon acquired.

As CTO, Wurman was responsible for the system architecture and decision-making algorithms. In May of 2012, Kiva was acquired by Amazon and has subsequently deployed more than 150,000 robots to Amazon warehouses. While with Amazon, Wurman founded the Amazon Picking Challenge, an international robotics competition which pushes the state of technology in warehouse automation.

Prior to working at Kiva, Wurman was an associate professor of Computer Science at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. He has published over 50 academic papers and has received over 60 granted patents. Pete is widely respected for his research and practical application of Internet and e-commerce technologies.

Pete earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.

Dennis Crespo is the Vice President of Product Marketing and Business Development at Cogitai. He brings 30 years of experience in the software and semiconductor industries with extensive experience in start-up market growth for the machine learning and GPU markets. Prior to joining Cogitai, Dennis served as the CEO for Ludo AI and Director of Marketing at Cadence Design Systems in Artificial Intelligence SaaS markets. Prior to that, he held various VP of Marketing and Business Development leadership roles at Alea Labs, DisplayLink, Silicon Optix, and S3 Inc, he received his degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Heald Technical Institute.
